Mount Holyoke’s rankings are dropping because of low retention rates.  On the agenda for future Senate meetings is to brainstorm ways to address Mount Holyoke’s high transfer rate.  The Ways & Means committee voted on orgs who applied for contingency funding: 32 were allocated their funding and three were denied it. Starting next week, Senate will no longer vote on contingency budgets. Instead the Ways & Means committee will e-mail the proposed budget to the Org Senators whose organizations are applying for funding. A Ways & Means representative will represent that committee once a month.

At the meeting, Senators split up into groups to discuss issues on campus that they wanted to see addressed. These included centralized dining, people disrespecting quiet hours, the lack of continental breakfast at Dickinson and honor code issues. While in their groups, Senators also expressed interests in various speakers coming to Senate, including:  Lynn Pasquerella, a staff member of Residential Life and someone from a college that has centralized dining. The Senators also discussed ways to make a bigger impact on the student body.
