Dear Mother Mary,

I’ve been seriously involved with someone from my high school for over two years now. We are in love, but I am wary of the distance between us and also of how much fun my single friends are having. Should I stay with my significant other from home?

Sincerely,

Honey from Home

Dear Honey from Home,

The furthering of your education is a truly wonderful and fresh experience for a young adult to enjoy. I do advise against holding on to a relationship simply because you are concerned with what the future may hold. You are still between hay and grass, my dear. Do not let fear keep you from developing. If you have doubts, do not beat the devil around the stump. Simply refuse to participate in such a relationship any further. This environment that you have entered is fresh and exciting, but also daunting. If you find yourself blossoming at Mount Holyoke but feel as if your significant other is stunting such growth, I would advise for you two to part. If they encourage and inspire you to grow, then pay no mind to the others around you as long as you are happy. It is possible to grow while still having attachments with someone. When all else fails, follow your heart.

Sincerely,

Mother Mary

Dear Mother Mary,

My roommate comes back to the room drunk all the time. While I’m all for having a good time, I feel like I need to draw a line somewhere. I’m getting tired of babysitting. What should I do?

Sincerely,

Reckless Roommate

Dear Reckless Roommate,

Cohabitation can be a very tricky subject. However, I truly believe that communication will help you solve this predicament. You should not linger over a boiling stew for too long. It will only invite her to continue such habits and cause tension in the relationship. Discuss what is and is not acceptable. If you cannot come to a reasonable consensus, then I would advise seeking further help from a community advisor.

Sincerely,

Mother Mary
